SIA’s Government Business Development Working Group creates programs that meet two basic goals:
- increasing member’s knowledge of current public policy issues that may impact their business, and
- effectively positioning SIA as an indispensable source of information and expertise on electronic physical security issues to a variety of government entities.
The Working Group’s programs are derived from a variety of issues impacting several vertical markets, including the federal government, health care, maritime, education, public transportation, and critical infrastructure.
A key part of the Working Group’s activities is planning SIA’s annual Government Summit—the industry’s premier public policy conference. Past Summits have provided attendees with insight from key government decision makers, such as The White House, GSA, the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and Congress. The 2009 Government Summit will be held June 1-3 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Washington, DC.
The Working Group also sponsors a quarterly webinar series for members that focus on major issues impacting and influencing future business opportunities. Recent webinar topics have included TWIC implementation, state and local homeland security decision-making, IPv6 implementation, and insight into GSA’s Schedule 84 cooperative purchasing initiative.
In the coming months the committee will examine the feasibility of scheduling a series of “round-table” discussions with government leaders about the major issues impacting the electronic, physical security industry.
