A PIONEERING NEW INITIATIVE FROM SIA STANDARDS
While various industry initiatives are underway that focus on designing digital video technology specifications (i.e. compression and analytics), no group has ever attempted to create a holistic video technology guideline, one that outlines and details how video technology solutions should be designed and implemented across numerous applications.
In December, the working group for the newest SIA Standards initiative – Design, Deployment and Operation of Video Technology for Detection, Assessment and Forensic Analysis (DDOV) – kicked off its activity with a meeting in Alexandria, Va.
Upon completion of the effort, for any application, an implementer will be able to refer confidently to the standard to:
- Select video technologies that will achieve desired outcomes
- Deploy these technologies correctly within any environment
- Maintain both the devices and data created from these devices
- Perform product conformity assessment testing
The SIA Security Applications Standards Committee has selected Charlie Pierce, president of LeapFrog Consulting, as the DDOV Working Group chair. Pierce brings more than 35 years of industry experience to the effort to steer the project and encourage parties from all segments of the security industry to participate.
Pierce led the kickoff group in beginning to map out the use cases, environments, components and behaviors that must be identified in order to build out specifications for a representative number of digital video applications. After these foundational elements are complete, the group will build the standard as a part of the Security Industry Association’s established family of Open Systems Integration and Performance Standards (OSIPS).
The group is looking for representatives from across the industry - end-users, consultants, manufacturers and product specifiers - to join the working group that will create this groundbreaking standard. The group plans to meet in person two to three times per year, with short teleconferences being held once or twice each month.
