Security Industry Association Sends Letters Supporting RFID
Proposed legislation in Texas bad for student safety and state economy
Don Erickson, CEO of the Security Industry Association (SIA), sent a letter to legislators in the Texas House and Senate in opposition to proposed legislation that would amend the Education code to prohibit the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as a means to identify, transmit information about, or track the location of students. SIA Sends Letter to President Obama on School Safety
Jay Hauhn, Chairman of Board of Directors for the Security Industry Association (SIA), sent a letter to President Barack Obama on the subject of security in the nation's schools. In the letter, Mr. Hauhn said that SIA members are committed to working with the Obama administration, Congress, law enforcement and the education community to develop reasonable public policy solutions that may help to avert events such as the one that occurred in Newtown, CT. Government Relations Committee, Subcommittee and Working Group Meetings
The Government Relations Committees, Subcommittees and Working Groups met for their inaugural 2013 meetings during the week of January 14 to idenfity priorities for the year.
They are scheduled to meet again during the week of February 18th. Stay tuned for details.
Bob Woodward to speak at SIA Government Summit
Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and best-selling author, Bob Woodward will be the keynote speaker at the Security Industry Association's (SIA) Government Summit – the premier annual public policy conference in the security industry. Mr. Woodward has been hailed as one of the greatest journalists of all time. He has spent more than four decades as a reporter and associate editor for the Washington Post and he is the recipient of almost every major American journalism award.

New Chairman of House Committee on Homeland Security
The Security Industry Association congratulates Chairman-elect Michael McCaul on his selection to head the House Committee on Homeland Security. Chairman-elect McCaul will replace current Chairman Peter King, who, due to House rules, cannot serve another term. Representative McCaul will take the gavel when the 113th Congress convenes on January 3, 2013. You can read the release here.
